McDonald’s Old West Characters
Pretending to be cowboys and Indians was a popular childhood game for Baby Boomers. Now many are re-evaluating the heavily mythologized history of conflicts between 19th-century pioneers and native Americans. The Old West set is one of the rare times that Diener made realistic human figures. The six characters are imprinted with the Diener name, but apparently Diener never sold them directly. The hard-to-find toys were only released as giveaways with the McDonald’s Old West Happy Meals in 1981 — and even then they were only distributed regionally, not nationwide. The identity of the characters is unknown, so RetroErasers made our best guess in assigning names commonly used on the American frontier.
