The Flintstones

Meet the Flintstones, the modern Stone-Age eraser family! “The Flintstones” was the first cartoon series on primetime TV when it premiered in 1960, and Flintstones erasers became some of Diener’s first and most fabulous creations. Versions from the early 1960s were elaborately painted and up to 2-3/4 inches tall, which is massive compared to most of Diener’s Itty Bittys. Viewers laughed as the prehistoric families used technologies similar to 20th-century suburban America. Eight characters embodied the two families on the sitcom: Fred, Wilma, their daughter Pebbles and their pet dinosaur, Dino; and Barney, Betty, their son Bamm-Bamm and their pet hopparoo, Hoppy. The show came from Hanna-Barbera Productions, starting a long partnership with Diener that led to many other erasers based on Hanna-Barbera cartoons. Later on, Diener shrank and simplified their Flintstones erasers, but kids kept on buying the toys for decades as the Flintstones lived on in continuous reruns. To quote Fred’s favorite exclamation, Yabba-Dabba-Doo!
