Space Raiders
Alien robots and starships sent erasers skyrocketing into the Space Age with the 1978 launch of Space Raiders. Soon the Space Raiders became one of Diener’s all-time most popular lines. Each of the four science-fiction characters had a futuristic name were paired with their own ship in Space Raider 2-packs. Brak, Dard, Horta and Zama each had a distinctive look and personality. Their spacecraft were named Ceti-3, Krygo, Lyra and Altair. A 1985 addition to the line included a small robot Alcor and a humanoid robot Draco. They were also marketed under the name “Robot Erasers” and “Rubbos.” Sometimes they showed up in McDonald’s Happy Meals and on school notebook covers. The 1978 series of 12 notebooks provided backstory on each character, including two spacecraft that apparently never made it into production as erasers: Propus 1 and Theta 6.
